{"id":6897,"date":"2012-03-24T14:02:05","date_gmt":"2012-03-24T21:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stormwater.sustainablewestseattle.org\/?p=6897"},"modified":"2012-03-24T14:02:05","modified_gmt":"2012-03-24T21:02:05","slug":"west-seattle-high-school-wins-1000-to-battle-tox-ick-monster-with-new-rain-garden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/index.php\/2012\/03\/24\/west-seattle-high-school-wins-1000-to-battle-tox-ick-monster-with-new-rain-garden\/","title":{"rendered":"West Seattle High School wins $1,000 to battle Tox-Ick Monster with rain garden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tOn Thurs<a href=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/check1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-6902\" src=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/check1-300x251.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/check1-300x251.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/check1.jpg 490w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>day, March 22nd, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainablewestseattle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sustainable West Seattle<\/a> awarded The West Seattle High School Earth Service Corps $1,000 toward a new rain garden for the school.\u00a0 The Corps earned the award through its public outreach efforts by getting more than 40 new people to attend a <em>Don&#8217;t Feed the Tox-Ick Monster<\/em> education event.<\/p>\n<p>Sage Taber, WSHS student, and her fellow Earth Service Corps members have built momentum for the rain garden at the school.\u00a0 The Corps will coordinate with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stewardshippartners.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stewardship Partners<\/a> and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainableseattle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Sustainable Seattle<\/a> to plan and build out the rain garden.\u00a0 We will be putting out a call for volunteers to help plant the garden in the next month.\u00a0 Once the garden is built, the Corps will work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainableseattle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sustainable Seattle<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cedarriver.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Friends of the Cedar River Watershed<\/a> to integrate the rain garden into the school&#8217;s science curriculum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/WSHS1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6904\" src=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/WSHS1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/WSHS1.jpg 490w, https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/WSHS1-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a>\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, March 22nd, Sustainable West Seattle awarded The West Seattle High School Earth Service Corps $1,000 toward a new rain garden for the school.\u00a0 The Corps earned the award through its public outreach efforts by getting more than 40 &hellip;
