{"id":6545,"date":"2011-08-11T17:23:22","date_gmt":"2011-08-11T17:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sustainablewestseattle.org\/?p=6545"},"modified":"2011-08-11T17:23:22","modified_gmt":"2011-08-11T17:23:22","slug":"6th-annual-duwamish-river-festival-sws-will-be-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tox-ick.org\/index.php\/2011\/08\/11\/6th-annual-duwamish-river-festival-sws-will-be-there\/","title":{"rendered":"6th Annual Duwamish River Festival &#8211; SWS Will Be There!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.duwamishcleanup.org\/programs.html#Duwamishfestival\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6550\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sustainablewestseattle.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DuwamishRiverFestPoster1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"154\" \/><\/a> down to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/parks\/park_detail.asp?ID=705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duwamish Waterway Park<\/a>, 7900 10th Avenue South in South Park, Saturday, August 27 for the 6th Annual Duwamish River Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Sustainable West Seattle is one of the participants and we&#8217;ll be helping set up the festival from 9:00 am that morning and will be tabling and helping out when the Festival kicks into gear at noon through 6:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>Sign up for the Walk, Bike and Paddle events on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brownpapertickets.com\/event\/182258\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brown Paper Tickers<\/a>. \u00a0This is a special 9:00 am event which begins at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/parks\/park_detail.asp?id=455\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Seacrest Park <\/a>in West Seattle&#8217;s Alki neighborhood. \u00a0You can walk, bike, kayak or standup paddle from Seacrest down the Duwamish Waterway to the Waterway Park.<\/p>\n<p>The festival is free and will include live music, free lunch, kids activities, interactive booths,kayak and boat rides and more! Arrive in Seattle style and walk, bike, or paddle to the annual festival. Walk\/bike\/paddle participants receive an event shirt, a refillable water bottle, and a map at the start. Buttons will also be given at the Walk\/Bike\/Paddle finish line.<\/p>\n<p>The Duwamish River Festival has been a summer favorite event in South Seattle since 2005, attracting hundreds of people each year.<\/p>\n<p>Seattle&#8217;s Duwamish River is listed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Environmental Protection Agency<\/a> (EPA) as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/superfund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Superfund Site<\/a> &#8211; one of our nation&#8217;s most toxic rivers. \u00a0The Duwamish River Festival is one way that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duwamishcleanup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition\/TAG<\/a> ensures that River communities can learn about and comment on the River cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s festival will feature updates on the Duwamish River Superfund cleanup, children&#8217;s art activities, kayak and boat tours of the river, local live entertainment and artwork, boat rides, free food, environmental health information, Bert the Salmon, healthy yard care, and more.
