Accompanying these documents is the Director\u2019s Report that summarizes the proposed changes to the SMP.  We encourage you to review these documents and send us your comments.  The documents are available on CD or hard copy by request, and at the following website: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/dpd\/Planning\/ShorelineMasterProgramUpdate\/Overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/dpd\/Planning\/ShorelineMasterProgramUpdate\/Overview\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The update of the City\u2019s SMP regulations is mandated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecy.wa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Washington Department of Ecology<\/a>.  The SMP constitutes the policies and regulations governing development and uses on and adjacent to marine and freshwater shorelines. This includes the waters of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Puget_Sound\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Puget Sound<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lake_Washington\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lake Washington<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerforlakewashingtonstudies.com\/nsr\/pdf\/LkUnionShipCanal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lake Union\/Ship Canal<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Duwamish_River\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duwamish River<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Green_Lake_(Seattle)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Green Lake<\/a>, as well as associated wetlands and floodplains. These policies and regulations affect land uses, structure bulk and setbacks, public access requirements, bulkheads, docks, piers, and construction practices.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the draft regulations and polices DPD will be releasing a restoration plan in March 2011.
